Laiki Bank Championship
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility plan and actions, Laiki Bank has agreed with the Cyprus Football Association to be the sole sponsor of the Cyprus Football Championship, Laiki Bank Championship. The sponsorship commenced in 2007 for a five-year period.
Main goals of this initiative and the Laiki Bank Championship are:
- The financial support of the Cyprus Football Association and the clubs
- The establishment, strengthening and promotion of the spirit of sport, friendship, companionship in and out of the football pitch, and the cultivation of sportsmanship and fair play
- The development of collective thinking and collective problem-solving pertaining to the various issues that football faces in Cyprus
The CFA – Laiki Bank cooperation includes activities in and out of the football field, recognition of the best athletes and teams for each year, award for the most valuable player (MVP) of each game-day, and organizing the Marfin Laiki All Star Game.
With its massive appeal and successful organization for three straight years, the Marfin Laiki All Star Game has been established both as a sports as well as a humanitarian annual-event, since all proceeds are donated to children with special needs, through the Radiomarathon Foundation.
In addition, Laiki Bank is the sponsor of the annual grass-roots championship while at the same time organizes symposia and lectures on the current issues affecting football in Cyprus.
In 2008, we organized a symposium on "The future of the Cypriot footballer", while in 2009 one on "The Global economic crisis and Cyprus football". Beyond these symposia, we organized lectures by distinguished coaches and managers Gerard Houllier (2010) and Howard Willkinson (2011).
